Sports Betting World In Mourning For The Death Of Smokin Joe Frazier

Smokin’ Joe Frazier has died of liver cancer at the age of 67.

Frazier was one of the world’s greatest heavyweights and in the Sixties, bar Muhammad Ali there were fewer other boxers who you would put your money on in sports betting.

Frazier was brought up in a large, poor family in South Carolina and initially joined the gym to lose some weight, who’d have though he would have gone on to become one of the worlds’ most celebrated boxers! However Frazier is most well known for his famous trilogy of fights against Ali, who dubbed him “a white champion in a black skin”. The taunting and rivalry between both boxers out of the ring was even more famous than the fights themselves and sports betting enthusiasts would support Ali or Frazier on who they preferred rather than who would win! Their battles were as much about character as they were about strength and technique.

Unfortunately in today’s world of online betting, such larger than life characters are much rarer to come across and the world of boxing is perhaps a more subdued sport than it was in the Sixties and Seventies. Bearing in mind this was also a time of the Civil Rights Movement in the States and severe racial segregation, so a fight between two black man was not only a boxing match it was also a politically charged event.

Boxing nowadays is not without it’s heroes, and with the Olympics on the horizon, the online betting world is gearing up for a serious influx of new gamblers, some casual and some serious. If you’re interested at having a stab at it, head to Bet 365 and you can even bet on the games as they happen, so you won’t ever miss a punch.
