With a prescription of -4.50, I’m halfway to being declared legally blind.

It’s true. I’ve always had terrible eyesight, but recently a friend of mine told me that at +/-10 you can be declared legally blind and start claiming benefits. For years my eyesight has been on the decline, squinting turning to missing people to who waved or smiled at me, finally giving in to the oh-so-attractive four-eyed phenomenon (nerdiness wasn’t cool then the way it is now) and eventually progressing to daily poking myself in the eye with contacts. As much as I resented having the extra five minutes stolen from my sleep-in in the morning, I resigned myself to a future of contact dependency.

But I’ve finally decided I’m too young to borrow from the large print section and am getting laser eye surgery.

I tell you this because as much as I’m dreading what is bound to be traumatic surgery (spawning many other blog posts), I am looking forward to one thing – online casino games whilst I recuperate. I’ve been told that I am to stay indoors for a few days and sleep for as long as possible, but when I wake up I’ll have hours to kill and no way of entertaining myself other than settling into an online casino and playing some of my favourites.

In fact, I think I’ve timed it perfectly – Casino Swiss, Casino King and Casino Las Vegas are taking part in an Enter the Matrix promotion to celebrate 11/11/11 and the prize pool totals £22,000. If I win a share of that I might just pay off the surgery – wouldn’t that be fantastic!

Wish me luck – I might not be looking forward to the actual laser, but I’m sure looking forward to the online casino session at the end.
