Online Sports Betting Operators Agree That England’s Batting is Shameful

The performance of England’s batsmen in the first innings against Sri Lanka was poor and utterly shameful.

The top five in the England order could only manage 93 runs, with 52 of that coming from Ian Bell. England rating as number one in the world may soon be lost, with the major online sports betting operators taking the view that it already is. Whether the batsmen have some mental block that they need to overcome, or the simple fact that acquiring runs sometimes requires patience and running between the wickets, the coaching staff and players need to remedy the situation quickly.

What I would suggest to players is to sit and look at the way Jayawardene conducted himself in the first innings. He was in complete control of his play and shots, playing each ball as it came and didn’t try to force his shots. Bell was the only English player that showed any class, and although there was talk of him being omitted from the squad after his poor form in the UAE, this week he showed his talent and true worth.

The only other positive thing to take from the game was the bowling performance. The bowlers were outstanding, but they need to be backed up by sound batting in order for the team to have any consistent success. Lets hope this improves, as one cannot have their bowlers giving their best without having the time to get adequate rest. Not to mention being mentally up and down, with a great bowling performance, followed by having to witness heart breaking batting. The next match starts on Tuesday 3rd April, and betting for that sees both teams priced at 2/1 to win, so the there is still hope for England to prove to themselves that playing in the sub-continent is not impossible.
