Chelsea won the Europa League Final against Benfica with a late winning header by Branislav Ivanovic, to make history by being the first club to hold both the Champions League and Europa League titles at the same time - even if it will only be for a few days.

The Blues fans who took the chance of betting online during the last stages of the game would have been richly rewarded, as Chelsea showed their experience and pedigree by producing the winner in additional time added on.

After a first half that saw Benfica excel over a poor Chelsea showing, The Blues came out for the second 45 minutes a vastly improved team. Torres scored yet again in Europe, after an inspired throw out by Cech, and the English Premier League team looked to be on their way. However a hand ball by Cesar Azpilicueta gave Benfica a penalty in the 68th minutes and Cardozo blasted it in the net to bring the score to 1-1. It was frantic end to end stuff for the rest of the game, but it was a header by Branislav Ivanovic that gave Chelsea the victory.

Rafael Benitez will be pleased with his team’s performance, and the manager would have achieved his goal of winning at least one trophy back to Stamford Bridge during his short time in charge. Frank Lampard hit the bar and tested the in form Benfica goalkeeper, Artur; but did not manage to add to his goal tally for the season.
