Barcelona came from a goal behind to beat Sevilla 4-1 and reclaim their place at the top of the Spanish La Liga.

Sports betting fans will be pleased to see Lionel Messi return to form with two goals scored in the less than fifteen minutes. It is the striker’s first goal from open play since September when he sustained a hamstring injury. There is a huge battle for the title this year with Barcelona, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid all with 57 points and goal difference now starting to become a major factor as they fight to the end.

On a rainy afternoon, Barcelona struggled to impress, as Sevilla at home dominated for long periods in the game. The home team had fifteen shots whilst Barcelona could only muster nine, and even though it can be argued that Sevilla had the best opportunities, it was Barcelona who made the most of their chances and secured the game. Sanchez equalized in the 34th minute and Messi put the visitors ahead just before half time. The Argentinian then made it 3-1 early in the second half, and Fabregas sealed the win in the last minutes of the game.

The equalizer from Barcelona will be viewed as controversial, as Sanchez seemed to be in an offside position as Messi started the play with his free kick. The home team will feel that goal should not have been allowed as it obviously changed the course of the game, and gave Barcelona the impetus to go and win the match. However, neutrals will say Sevilla never took their chances and Barcelona deserved the win, with Messi looking to be on his way to his previous best before the hamstring injury.

What the result does do, is make for an exciting fight for the La Liga title. WIll Messi’s current return to form be enough to see Barcelona become champions, or will Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale power on to win the title. Only time will tell!
