How to play Mahjong
Big Gains No Pains Guides - How to play Mahjong

Perhaps the hardest game to explain and the hardest game to pick up - Mahjong is for thos who are quick-thinking and perceptive. If you feel that these are your strengths - read on and learn how to play...

In Mahjong - you are given various shaped designs filled with numbered tiles of various patterns and several alternate symbols. The aim is to get rid of all the tiles - and the only way to do this is to pair them off so they disappear. This, however, is nowhere near as simple as it sounds - as you only remove tiles on the edge of structures. Take this pyramid for example - a demonstration of a Mahjong board.

See how the tiles are stacked in a certain shape - with several main designs - Chinese Symbols numbered 1-9, Green Circles numbered 1-9, Straw Symbols numbered 1-9, Directions (East, West, South and North), 3 x Dragons (Red, Green and Blue) and finally the random symbols (including a Winter Snowflake, A Spring Flower, a Yellow Starfish and a Green Circle). The aim is to pair these up and you will eventually clear the board (or run out of time before you do). The problem is here that there are only certain tiles available for you to click - those highlighted in circles are they only 'selectable' tiles.

(See Picture Right for Details)

If you look carefully you will see that only the tiles on the edge are selectable and all other ones are not - however should you remove one of these tiles - the tile underneath it or blocked by it - would become available. For example - if you were to use one of the Red dragons from the centre with the Red dragon at the top right hand corner - you would not be able to access the Tile marked with the Chinese 2 Symbol which you could not access before. However - the dilemma comes when you have several options to choose from and have to plan which one you think would be the best option. There are 3 Red Dragons available to select - so which two do you choose? Also the centre 5 of Circles is blocking the majority of the board - so how will you get rid of that? There is a 5 of Circles 3 tiles in from the bottom left - or 3 tiles in from the centre left - so how do you get to them? It is because of all these questions and the limited time you have to answer them - that the game is often reserved for those who are fast-thinkers and strategic players who can plan several moves ahead and not just think of a solution for one possible tile.

Should you run out of moves to do - you will see a screen that is similar to the one below and you will be allowed to restart and try again - banking the score that you just achieved unless you can beat that in another go within the time limit allowed.

Although this game requires an incredible amount of patience and is reserved mostly for those who are good at strategic games - should you wish to give it a try - feel free to check out any of the Casinos on the Drop Down Menu on the left or check out our recommended ones below.
