A
Aces and Faces - A type of Video Poker similar to Jacks or Better where getting 4 Aces gives an increased return
Action - The money wagered by a player during the entire Gambling session
Aggregate Winnings - Total accumulated winnings
All or Nothing - To Stake everything you have on the outcome of one event
Ante - A Bet required to begin a hand in Card Games.
Arcade Game - A 'Fun' Game found at many sites to accompany the main games and often very quick and simplistic (For example Scratch Cards)


B
Baccarat - A table game that uses 6 or 8 decks of cards, sometimes known as Punto Banco
Blackjack - A game where players are dealt cards and play to get as close to 21 without exceeding the total
Bet - A wager made
Blind - A Bet made before the player can see his cards
Bluff - A lie or form of deceit used heavily in Card Games
Base - The area on a Craps table where the majority of the Bets are placed
Banker - Another name for the Dealer in Card Games
Bingo - A Game where players purchase cards with random numbers on them and aim to be the first to cover up all those numbers as random numbered balls are drawn from a machine and called out
Book - To accept a Bet
Bookie - A slang name for a Bookkeeper
Bookkeeper - The name for someone who sets the Odds and takes Bets
Box - The area of the table controlled by a Boxman in Craps
Boxman - The casino employee in charge of a Craps Table
Bug - Another name for a Joker
Bump Up - To raise the Bet
Burn - To throw away Cards
Burn Cards - Cards that are placed in a discarded tray at the end of  a hand by the Dealer
Bust - In Blackjack - to draw cards that exceed the total of 21
Buy In - To convert cash into chips or the minimum amount needed to play at a game

Call - To match the current Bet
Cap - A set limit
Card Shark - A colloquial term for a formidable Card Player
Cashier - Another name for a Banker
Catch - Refers to a Number Successfully Drawn in Keno
Chase - To place another Bet in the hope of winning back money already lost
Check - A command used to stay in a Poker Game without placing a Bet
Chips - Round Discs that represent different denominations of money generally by colour
Cold Streak - Opposite of a Hot Streak - where the player has had several losses in a row
Come Out Roll - The Shooter's first roll in Craps - this sets the Point
Comps - Gifts given by the casino to thank a player generally for their loyalty
Comp Points - Loyalty Points accrued at a casino as the player keeps Betting
Craps - A casino table game played with Dice
Craps Out - A roll of 2,3 or 12 on the Come Out Roll in Craps
Credit - In Slot Machines and Video Poker Machines - money put in appears as 'Credits' according to the value of the Coin taken by the Machine
Croupier - Another name for a banker, used in Baccarat and Roulette
Cut - To divide a Card deck into two parts


D
Deal - To give out the cards during a Card game
Dealer - The person who is giving out the cards. Sometimes known as the Banker
Deuces - Another name for '2's
Deuces Wild - A type of Video Poker where the '2' Cards act as Wild Cards
Dice - A pluralised form of Die - referring to identically numbered cubes
Die - A singular form of Dice
Dime Bet - A $1,000 Bet
Dollar Bet - A $100 Bet
Double Down - A bet available in Blackjack where the player can double his initial bet and draw one more card in the hope of beating the dealer and earning twice as much money back
Double Up - To double one's bet in the attempt to cover a loss and increase the winning potential
Down Card - A card that is dealt face down
Draw - To take a card in the effort to complete a hand
Draw Poker - Refers to various types of Poker where the players have to draw cards
Drop - Money lost while Gambling

E
Edge - The competitive advantage
Even Money Bet - A Bet with even odds (1:1 Odds)
Even - Refers to a Bet covering the Even Numbers on a Roulette Table


F
Face Cards - Refers to Jack, Queen and King in any suit
Fifth Street - The third round of Betting in Seven Card Stud Poker - this is because the players now have five cards
Fill - To draw a card in Poker that creates a Five Card Hand
Fill Up - To reach a Full House in Poker
Fixed Bet - A Bet where the odds have already been set
Flop - In various Poker games - refers to the three cards dealt face up and all at the same time
Fold - To relinquish a hand
Fourth Street - The second round of Betting in Seven Card Stud Poker - this is because the players now have four cards
Front Line - In Craps - this is the same as the Pass Line
Fruit Machine - Another name for a Slot Machine


G
Grease - A Bribe (For example - to Grease someone's Palms)
Gross - Opposite of Net - this refers to the Winnings including the initial Wager


H
Hand - The cards that a player is holding
High Poker - Generally this is normal Poker where the highest hand wins - but is used to distinguish when Low Poker is on offer.
High Card - The lowest hand available in Poker - where the player has no pairs and the highest value card in his hand is known as his 'High Card'
High Roller - A colloquial term for someone who wagers a lot of money
Hit - To request/take another card
Hold One's Own - To Break Even
Hole Card - Any card dealt face down (For example the card a dealer gets in Blackjack face down)
Hot Streak - Opposite of a Cold Streak - refers to a player on a Winning Run
House - Another name for the Casino, a Dealer or a Banker
House Edge - Referring to the Advantage that the Casino or the Dealer has over the player/s


I
Inside Bet - Refers to a Bet on a single number or several numbers in Roulette (The inside of the board)
Inside Track -An advantageous position to be in - Betting
Insurance - Refers to a Side Bet offered in Blackjack when the Dealer's Face Card is an Ace. This bet offers the player a chance to recuperate his losses in the event of the Dealer having Blackjack.


J
Jack - The Fourth Highest Card - value normally set at 10
Jackpot - Another name for a Progressive - A big win normally funded by an accrued pool of players losses.
Jacks or Better - A variety of Video Poker machine where the player must get a Pair of Jacks of Better in order to have a winning hand
Joker - A Wild Card that can often be substituted for any other card in the game.
Juice - Refers to the Commission taken by the Casino


K
Kicker - Refers to Draw Poker - a High Card that does not contribute to a Straight or a Flush
King - The Second Highest Card - value normally set at 10


L
Let 'Em Ride - A Table Game similar to Poker found at most Casinos
Let it Ride - To Increase a Bet by two
Load Up - To play the maximum bet on a Slot Machine or Video Poker Machine
Low Poker - A Game of Poker where the lowest hand wins - opposite of High Poker


M
Martingale System - Popular among betters - a System that involves doubling the Bet after a loss in the effort to make a profit overall
Meld - Three of more of the same valued card together in the game of Rummy
Mini Baccarat - A smaller version of the game with less players and dealers
Mini Roulette - A smaller version of the game normally only numbered up to 12
Money - Refers to a $500 Value


N
Natural - A hand in Blackjack that adds up to 21 - only using 2 Cards.
Negative Bet - a Bet that is against the favour of the market
Neutral Bet - Betting where the odds of return are 1:1. (For example Betting $1 will win $2)
Net Winnings - Opposite of Gross - this refers to the Total Winnings less Original Wager
Nickel - A $5 Chip
Number Pool - The range of numbers found on the entire board in games such as Keno


O
Odds - The statistical chances that a player has of winning at a certain type of game or on a machine. Alternatively the rates offered by Bookkeepers against wagers placed on events.
Off - Term used sometimes for Losing Bets
Off-Track Bet - A Bet placed by a person not actually at the Tracks
On - Term used for Winning Bets
Open - The Player who makes the first Bet in Poker
Outside Bet - Refers to a bet on a Group of 18 or Column placed in Roulette (The outside of the board)
Outside Track - a not so advantageous position to be in
Overlay - A Bet where the player has an edge over the Casino


P
Palette - An instrument used by Baccarat Dealers to move cards on the table
Pass - To Fold or to not Bet
Pass Line - In Craps this is the area of the table where the Pass Line Bet is placed
Pass Line Bet - In Craps, referring to a Bet made prior to the Come Out Roll
Pat - In Draw Poker this is a hand that does not need any more cards. In Blackjack this refers to a hand that is equal to or more than 17 but no greater than 21.
Payline - A line on Slot Machines where symbols must line up for the player to win. (See How To Play Slot Machines for more details)
Payoff - The Return paid on a winning wager
Payout Percentage - The percentage of every $1 that by average, the player will receive back
Pit - The area of the casino where the Table Games are usually hosted
Pit Boss - The person in charge of the Pit
Player - A person who is actively gambling
Plug - A shuffling technique popular in Blackjack
Pocket Cards - In Poker - this refers to the first two cards dealt to a player - Face Down
Poker - A popular game involving cards with many varieties - found at almost all casinos
Point - In Craps, this refers to the roll on a Come Out Roll where the number accumulated by the die is between 4 and 10 inclusive.
Pool - Prize Fund on Offer - Normally referring to a large sum of money that is to be split among winning parties
Positive Bet - a Bet that is in favour of the market
Post - To offer up a wager (For example - To Post a Bet)
Pot - The amount of money that accumulates in the middle of the table in Poker
Press - Same as Let it Ride - to increase a Bet by two
Probability - A mathematical term that refers to the odds of an event happening.
Progressive Betting - a Betting system where the original wager is changed according to circumstances past
Progressive - Another name for an accumulated Jackpot
Progressive Slots - A variety of Slot Machine that gives the player a chance to win a large sum of money by sweeping the Progressive
Proposition Bet - Refers to the dice bet placed on various number combinations in Craps
Punter - Another name for a Player or Better
Punto Banco - Another name for Baccarat
Push - A situation where the player and dealer/second player tie, generally resulting in both parties getting their Bets back


Q
Quads - Another name for Four of a Kind in Poker
Qualifier - An early round for the chance to win entry into a tournament.
Qualifying Hand - A hand of cards that has met the requirements to win - normally in Poker
Quarter - A $25 Chip
Queen - The Third Highest Card - Value normally set at 10
Quick Play - Found on most Poker and Skill Game sites - allowing the player to instantly join a table without setting requirements for the table to meet


R
Rake - A fee charged by the House for a round of Poker. Alternatively the cost to enter a tournament - payable to the House.
Rank - The value of particular cards
Riffling - A shuffling technique where the cards are split and intermixed with each other
River - The name of a final card dealt in a hand of Poker
Round - The time it takes for a cycle of betting to commence and the outcome to have been determined
Rummy - A style of games involving cards that are sorted into melds or runs
Run - A consecutive sequence of numbers with the same suit in Rummy


S
Sawbuck - $10 Value
Session - The entire period of gambling
Seven-Out - To roll a Seven when the point has been set in Craps
Seventh Street - The fifth and final card dealt in Seven Card Stud Poker - this is because the players now have all seven cards
Shark - A cheater or an extremely skilled Card Player
Shoe - The wooden box used to hold and dispense cards
Showdown - A poker term that describes the final action where players show their hands to each other
Shuffling - Mixing the cards to ensure fairness
Single Bet - Also called a Straight Bet - a simple Bet made on only one selection
Sixth Street - The fourth card dealt in Seven Card Stud Poker - this is because the players now have six cards
Snake Eyes - The term used to describe two dice rolled and both showing a '1'
Stack - A pile of Chips
Stand - A Card term for not accepting and more cards. To stay.
Stay - The same as to Stand
Streak Betting - a style of Betting where the player decides his bets based on the outcome or direction of a certain game
Stripping - A shuffling technique which reverses the first card and the last
Stud Poker - Opposite of Draw Poker - where a combination of Exposed cards and Face Down cards are in play
Suit - Any of the four types of card - Hearts, Diamond, Club and Spades
Surrender - To give up a hand before the wager is finished
System - A style of betting adopted by the player


T
Table Stakes - the Amount of money available at the table for a player to Bet
Tapping Out - Losing everything meaning the player has to quit
Tells - Signs or expressions that can give away whether a player is bluffing or telling the truth
Third Street - The first round of Betting in Seven Card Stud Poker - this is because the players now have three cards
Three of a Kind - An expression used when players have three cards of the same type
Ticket - Another name for a card
Tip - A gratuity paid to the casino employees
Token - A coin used to play at Slot Machines or Video Poker machines
Touch Wand - An instrument sometimes found on Keno machines to select the numbers
Tournament - A competition among players where they play against each other to determine a single winner or multiple winners - each of whom will receive a percentage of the accumulated pot made up of entry fees
Trips - Short for Triples - three cards of the same rank
True Odds - The actual odds of an event or outcome happening


U
Unit - A term to describe the smallest amount of money available to Bet
Upcard - Another name for an Exposed Card or Face Up Card. The opposite of a Hole Card


V
Vigorish - Another name for Juice - the commission taken by the Casino
VIP - An abbreviated name for a Very Important Person


W
Wager - A bet placed
Washing - A shuffling technique where the dealer spreads the cards out on the table and then combines them back into a pile in a different order
Whale -Another name for a High Roller
Wild Card - A card that can represent any other value that the player chooses
Working - A term used in Craps to signal when Bets are in play
